GUITARS FOR VETS, INC. is a registered 501 c(3) charity founded in 2008 to help veterans struggling with the effects of trauma, including PTSD. The first chapter began in Milwaukee, WI with a Vietnam veteran Dan, struggling with debilitating PTSD, and his guitar instructor Patrick. Currently, over 1,000,000 US veterans suffer the effects of PTSD.
G4V has grown to over 135 chapters across 40 states, where small teams of volunteer musicians deliver the free G4V program to veterans. Each veteran gets 10 free guitar lessons, a loaner guitar to learn with, and upon completion - a new free guitar, gig bag and accessory kit. They also become part of a healing veteran community who gather to play music, learn from one another, and continue to grow.
G4V has so far provided more than 50,000 free guitar lessons to vets, and given away more than 5000 free guitars. Gary Walbrun of RYVRWUD has been a G4V volunteer for 14 years, starting up the first 4 chapters in the Carolinas, and personally instructing over 50 vets. He is currently an instructor in Greenville, SC.
